The only difference is one was called a depression (US) and one is 25 years down the toilet (Japan). Both ended up the same way as far as the markets are concerned. Several one year rallies in the Nikkei, each 50% from it's bottom. Made for good trading I'm sure, but not much in the way of economic recovery! Only to think they threw $100 TRILLION Yen at their economy...I'm thinking Dennis Kneil, of CNBC fame, could get a gig over in Japan calling some bottoms. Botomu shorikatei!!!!!!!
The question is, which one would you rather experience? Amputation or water torture? Purge and rebuild or splurge and slow roast? But then again most feel our quick, bold, swift, aggressive, whatever-they-call-it-this-time, actions were taken much sooner than Japan, therefore we should avert both a depression and a lost decade. Perhaps only 8 years of misery... Methinks you are going to get one or the other. I hope I'm wrong...
